First, to define “Live room” if you mean recording studio (not radio studio, which may have a different definition) that likely means natural sounding with (pleasing) reverberant walls ideally with no parallel surfaces, perhaps defusers, but not deadeners or an excess of sound-absorbent materials. They tend to use a lot of wood in such rooms as it creates pleasing reflections. Its use would be to capture ensemble sounds more naturally, and to allow groups to play together, rather than overdubbing or even isolating each part for more absolute mixing control. This is more natural and holistic type of recording and would likely be done with more acoustic types of music and perhaps bands that have been together for ages and prefer to play as if they were on stage rather than in the studio. Really good sounding live rooms cost a lot of money to build and can command high rents which raise non-linearly with square footage: good live spaces that can accommodate an orchestra can really command a lot of money. Opposite would be a dead room that records sound very directly from a source (without much reflected or reverberated room sound), in which resultant sound would likely be heavily manipulated in the mixing process to create a desired (and likely very specialized) effect.
Number one is the voice. Aside from the standard vocalese training and bel canto, developing muscle memory is essential. Muscle memory is the ability of your voice, on command, to produce the sound in tune and on time that it sees and/or hears (as in sightsinging). More precisely, muscle memory is your voice doing what you tell it to do – without fail. Much the same as a piano player uses the Hanon Book of Exercises, the singer should be developing the voice with studies of intervals. Sightsinging is also essential. Sightsinging means that when you pick up a written piece of music, you can sing it the first time through – perfectly, even though you haven’t ever heard it. A very good singing teacher is a wonderful asset as a mentor and teacher. He/she will also help you with health tips that singers need. Another skill that is important is being able to play the piano. I have been on numerous sessions where someone says, “Ann, take the singers to the piano and ‘woodshed’ while we set up.”..No one has ever asked me if I play piano. It is assumed that if you are working at this level, and you are not someone’s girlfriend or boyfriend, your skills must be as sharp as a tack. Now that all of your craft skills are perfect, how do you let the vocal contractors know that you are ready? You can make a demo reel. A demo reel is a demonstration of your singing abilities which shows you can sing in different styles: effectively in a group, that you can blend, that you phrase properly for different genres of music (jazz to opera to country), etc. In one week, here in New York City a few years ago, I sang on an Aretha Franklin session, a guide tape for Sarah Vaughn, and I sang in “The Soldiers Chorus” for the New York City Opera recording of Faust. So you see that being flexible is very important.
Style. Stand out or die. Currently, the owners and managers of hotel facilities are doing their best to ensure that the hotels are not bland and dull, quite the contrary – they would like them to be expressive and with character. The architects they employ know that you cannot overdo it because comfort and functionality count most in the hotel. A visitor should feel even better here than they feel at home – carefree and pleasant. The arrangement of the hotel’s space is supposed to have personality but not for the price of overwhelming the guests with any unnecessary excess.
The appearance and arrangement of the reception area exposes the character of the hotel and way of treating its guests. Every detail matters. How to design this space to efficiently serve and pleasantly surprise guests? How to while away their hours for check-in? How to ensure sparkling cleanliness, safety, and comfort? How to make the honest smile of the receptionists the icing on the cake crowning a pleasant, trouble-free stay? The following article is devoted precisely to these issues. The legal framework for designing a hotel reception Just as the hotel bathrooms have their own requirements, strictly defined by the regulations (which we wrote about on our blog here), also the reception space is subject to formal requirements. Before you start designing a hotel reception, it is worth recalling the standards regarding the surface, equipment, and functions which should be met in the assumed category of the facility. Current legal guidelines are available here. How was the Guest persona defined? There exists no universal recipe for the perfect reception. It all depends on who it is to serve. How does the investor define the character of the hotel? For whom is it being built or renovated? Will it be a metropolitan business facility, an intimate hotel for lovers, an exclusive spa for mature ladies and gentlemen or an economical hotel for families with children? How many stars should it receive? The needs and preferences of the guests determine both the style of the arrangement and the functions carried out.
American clothing label Tommy Hilfiger recently introduced its first-ever digital retail showroom in Amsterdam. Featuring a smooth, touchscreen interface, this interactive showroom is the future of retail. While the designer's clothes always embody a traditional air, Tommy Hilfiger is a technological leader within his industry thanks to this latest feat.
